The Cotopaxi

Cotopaxi is one of the most active vulcanoes of Ecuador and with its 5897m one of the highest active worldwide.
There is a decent road going up to the national park. Once inside it goes on forHalfway her 6km or so when the road becomes a dirt road. Not much further the road becomes one with many pits and Quite steep. Needless to say that if you are not in a 4x4 you have no business there.
A great way to see the park is going up by jeep and coming down on a mountain bike. We chose to do it with this method and did not regret it.
Granted the way down from about 4500m is not an easy one but it sure is a spectacular one! You can take all the time you need to enjoy the landscape and I just loved the challenge it provides!
