Hammersharks

18 oktober 2014 - Santa Cruz, Ecuador

The most famous diving spot on Santa Cruz is Gordons Rock. The locals call it lavadora: the washing machine, because of the current. It has a large current but it's also famous for Hammersharks that tend to hang out there. Because of the current it's meant for experienced divers with at least 30 dives, but most dive clubs will take about anyone as long as you pay. Gordons Rock is pretty impressive, its one big and one small rock above the
water. Under the water it is a long cliff, going to 50m with a lot of fish hanging around. The dive went well, but when one person was nearly out of air we had to cut the dive short. We shot up a diver baloon and went up. It was at this time half a dozen of hammerheads swum by. They were so close. What a sight!
The afternoon we took a watertaxi back to San Christobal from where we were flying back to Quitó.
The Galapagos have amazed at every corner on times we tought we seen it all. It is without a doubt the best place to spot wildlife, but it remains fragile so it's important it stays preserved.
