Santa Cruz

13 oktober 2014 - Puerto Ayora, Ecuador

Where in San Christobal Sea Lions are king, Santa Cruz is mainly famous for its giant land turtles.
When we arrived here we didn't had a place to stay yet. After asking around a local helped us find something at a big discount. You should know the islanders have three price category's, locals, nationals and foreigners. So it can help greatly if a local helps you.
After being settled we went on a tour to the nearby famous Tortue reserve. Two species of Giant tortues run in the wild there. Well perhaps run is the wrong word. They can move about 2,5 km on a good day but usually go much slower. If you approach them from the front they will get scared and hide but if you approach them from behind they won't pay attention to you.
It was do nice to see dozens of giant tortues roam free.
