The eyes have it

1 oktober 2014 - Cuyabeno National Park, Ecuador

While you might think the jungle is infested with insects in my experience it's not so bad. I was rarely bothered by them and I only saw one mosquito.
Granted we do wear insect repellent but still you would expect a bite here or there. During our hike in the jungle today, we learned mostly about trees. Although there do live animals they smell our mosquito reppelent from miles away and hide during the day. Take alligators for example.  They blend in the landscape making it impossible to see them. But they have one weakness, their eyes shine in the darkness when you point at them with a flashlight.
There is nothing more tense then hunting for alligators on a boat in the night. When it came we shined our flashlights at the shore and saw orange eyes lurking in the dark. At least half a dozen. The crew tensed up as we approached the eyes. While we felt safe the tought did cross our mind that one could jump in the boat.
This was a unique experience I will not forget.
